Emergency Calls:

If emergency help is required, call 9-1-1 or your local emergency number.  Most police and fire departments have TTY/TDDs  As a TTY/TDD user, you can refer to the White Pages and call these agencies directly.  If that is not possible, a Representative will connect you with the appropriate agency.

Privacy Managers:

More and more phone consumers are now subscribing to a new feature offered by local phone companies, the "Privacy Manager".  Privacy Manager would intercept any call that would show up  (on your caller ID) as unknown, out of area or unavailable and private.  It would make the person record their name.  If they do, the recording comes to you.  You listen, decide if you want to talk to that person before you talk to them.  You make a choice by way of a menu.  There would be a monthly fee and installation fee.  For further information regarding this service please contact your local phone company.

After the rep dials a number for you and receives a "Privacy Manager" recording, the rep then would ask you, "reached Privacy Manager, need name to complete call, your name please Q".  You would need to tell your full name and the rep will leave your name on their recording.  Rep will wait for a live response from the called party.  If no such response, rep may hear recording repeating and will type out this message, "I'm sorry, there is no one to accept your call.  Please try again later".

If you wish further information, you can contact our Customer service number at  800-432-0762.

Caller ID:

Caller ID is available in many areas of Michigan

Relay consumers have contacted us with questions such as if caller ID is available via Michigan Relay Center?

Unfortunately, at this time caller ID does not work.  This is because caller ID works from where the call originates.  When calling via MRC, the system sees that all calls are from the relay center.  Another question that has been asked is about an "out of area" or 000 message that appears on caller ID box.

Many consumers felt when the "out of area" message appeared , MRC was calling and hanging up on them.

The "out of area" message may appear for many reasons.  Some people have a feature that allows caller ID to be blocked.  Another reason could be the person calling you does not have caller ID available in their area.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding caller ID, please call the MRC administration line at  800-432-0762 (V/TTY).  We would be more than happy to answer any question you may have.
